Maine officials seek to reopen pogy fishery with new catch limit

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Maine’s directed pogy, or menhaden, fishing season closes at 11:59 p.m., Tuesday.

According to the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, the state allocated catch limit has been met.

The Department of Marine Resources is now working with Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to reopen the fishery, according to the Maine Lobstermen’s Association.

They expect the new limit will be 14,000 pounds per week.
