Nice morning; PM showers & storms developing today

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Good morning and happy Father’s Day Sunday and official start to Summer, everyone!

Father’s Day Sunday will be a tail of two stories. Skies will be partly cloudy during the morning for inland & coastal communities. Skies will start off a bit cloudier to the North. Just an isolated shower or two is possible. However, by midday, pop up showers and storms will develop with building cloud cover. Showers and storms will continue throughout the afternoon and evening before dissipating around sunset/into the start of the overnight.

Storms will not pass through quickly like they would during a larger frontal boundary. Instead, due to their pop up and slow-moving nature, storms may set up in spots with heavier rain possible for a longer time. There is no severe weather or wind risk with the afternoon storms, but some isolated flooding can’t be ruled out as rainfall could accumulate between 1-2 inches in areas where storms set up. High temps will remain cooler than average, from the mid 60s to mid 70s with slightly sticky dewpoints. Scattered wind gusts will only reach 15-20 mph.

The morning will be a good time for Father’s Day plans. However, the afternoon could become quite wet in spots, so I would have rain jackets and umbrellas on standby, as well as somewhere to get inside incase a storm develops over you. The late evening hours/start to the night will be a bit more quiet, and thus a good time for Father’s Day plans or festivities.

Monday will carry a similar set up to Sunday. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy in the morning with some patchy morning fog. However, clouds will build in the afternoon. A few showers are possible to the North in the morning, before greater amounts of pop-up showers, and even a few non-severe storms will develop in the afternoon. Most precipitation is trending to the northwest of the interstate. Some late day rain is expected across southern & western communities. High temps will vary from the mid 60s to upper 70s with slightly sticky dewpoints. South gusts will reach 15-20 mph.

The wettest time of the week looks to be Monday night into Tuesday as a low-pressure system in the Gulf of Maine will combine with the pop-up precipitation trend we’ve been stuck in. Skies will be cloudy in the morning with rain, most likely along the coast and interstate. Skies will become partly to mostly cloudy in the afternoon as the low-pressure tracks east; however, showers will develop once again, mostly for Northern locations. Temperatures will take a hit, only topping off from the low 60s to mid 70s. ENE to NW gusts will become breezy, reaching 20-30 mph.

Wednesday looks to be the nicest day of the week with partly to mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for most. However, not the entire state looks to get by dry. More clouds are expected to the north with the chance of a few showers and storms developing in the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 60s to low 80s with slightly sticky dewpoints. Winds gusts will only reach 15-20 mph.

Building precipitation chances will return to the forecast on Thursday and Friday, continuing the trend of a wet week.

MONDAY: Highs from mid 60s to upper 70s. Partly to mostly cloudy AM. Cloudier PM with pop-up showers & few storms. Gusts reach 15-20 mph.

TUESDAY: Highs from low 60s to mid 70s. Cloudy AM with rain. Partly to mostly cloudy PM with showers possible. ENE to NW gusts reach 20-30 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Highs from upper 60s to low 80s. Partly to mostly sunny. More clouds North with few PM showers/storms possible. Gusts reach 15-20 mph.

THURSDAY: Highs from mid 60s to upper 70s. Partly cloudy. Cloudier PM Inland/North. PM showers/storms possible NW. Gusts reach 15-20 mph.
