Hot & Humid Friday. Chance Of Scattered Storms This Weekend

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The humidity continue to build across the region as a Bermuda High positioned off in the Atlantic Ocean pumps in tropical moisture. While dew points have been relatively slow to climb Thursday, expect them to rise overnight as conditions become increasingly muggy.

Thursday night will feature mostly clear skies with warm, muggy conditions. A few early evening showers and storms are possible in the northern and western areas. Overnight lows will settle into the 60s and low 70s with dew points in the 60s. Coastal areas should watch for areas of fog developing overnight.

Friday: The Worst of the Heat

Friday is shaping up to be the most uncomfortable day of the week. Afternoon highs will reach the 80s and low 90s, but the real story is the heat index. With dew points climbing close to 70°, heat index values will soar into the mid to upper 90s. Some communities will be under a Heat Advisory during the afternoon hours.

Make sure you have ways to stay cool and are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Limit outdoor activities during peak heating hours, especially for children and seniors.

Friday will also see additional cloud cover with isolated showers and storms likely by the afternoon as an approaching cold front moves in. These storms should be isolated and won’t require canceling any plans.

Saturday: Frontal System Brings Showers and Storms

A cold front will begin moving across the region Saturday morning. Showers and storms will develop, with pockets of heavy rainfall possible in the morning hours. By afternoon, a few scattered storms may linger on and off throughout the day.

Humidity will remain elevated with dew points in the mid to upper 60s. Highs will be slightly cooler, ranging from the upper 70s to the mid 80s.

Sunday: Drier Conditions Return

Sunday looks to be the drier day of the weekend, though not completely dry. Another cold front will approach from the northwest, bringing an afternoon storm chance for those in the northern and western areas. Those closer to the coast should see more stable conditions as a stronger sea breeze pushes a more stable air mass onshore, reducing any rainfall threat.

Highs will return to the 80s with dew points dropping to the low to mid 60s. Once this front passes, less humid air will settle in for the start of next week.
