PM showers & storms today; soaking rain tonight into Monday

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Good morning, and happy Sunday everyone.

Today will be another warmer day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Cloudy spots are possible, mostly across Northern Maine. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across Northern and Western locations throughout the day ahead of a cold front that will enter tonight. A Marginal (Category 1) risk of severe storms has been issued along the interstate and to the north & west. Thunderstorms are most probable in the afternoon/evening between the hours of 2-9pm. Damaging winds and torrential downpours are the greatest concerns with this severe weather risk. However, small sized hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. High temps will vary from the low 60s to upper 80s. Dewpoints will reach the sticky low 60s. SSW gusts will reach their breeziest level of the week, peaking between 20-30 mph.

The larger cold front will enter Maine tonight, with cloudy skies and a steady rain continuing through Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, the cold front will have passed east of us, with skies becoming partly cloudy. Rainfall totals from this cold front will likely vary between a half an inch to an inch. However, some spots are capable of receiving up to 2 inches of rain with heavier bands of rain/storms. Highs will take a hit on Monday, thanks to the cold front, varying from the mid 60s to upper 70s. Dewpoints will remain slightly sticky in the low 60s. South to WNW gusts will reach 20-25 mph on Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be spectacular days with sunnier skies and highs in the 70s for most. Plus humidity will be dropping with comfy dewpoints only in the 50s. A few showers can’t be ruled out in spots, but the vast majority of Maine will get by rain free.

However, partly to mostly cloudy skies in the morning on Thursday will give way to cloudy skies and rain showers for the afternoon hours. Another frontal system will be entering, with rain expected Thursday afternoon through Thursday night. Temperatures will be on the cooler side, from the mid 60s to mid 70s.

TUESDAY: Highs from upper 60s to upper 70s. Mostly sunny AM. Partly cloudy PM. Few spot showers North. West gusts reach 20 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Highs from low 70s to low 80s. Sunny AM. Partly to mostly sunny PM. Few late day showers possible West. SSW gusts reach 20 mph.

THURSDAY: Highs from mid 60s to mid 70s. Partly to mostly cloudy AM. Cloudier PM with rain developing. Slightly sticky dewpoints. SSE gusts reach 20-25 mph.
