Person dies at state park after falling from 177-foot waterfall while posing for pictures, police say

MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) - Authorities in Oregon say a person has died in a fall at Silver Falls State Park this week.

According to Oregon State Police, emergency crews were called to the park Monday evening for a report that someone had fallen from the top of South Falls, a 177-foot waterfall.

Investigators said that a person had crossed into a closed-off area to pose for photos at the top of the waterfall when they slipped and fell into the water below.

Witnesses shared that they attempted to save the person, but they could not.

The name of the person who died was not immediately released.
