Man dies after killing girlfriend while she was driving; texts discussed murder-suicide pact, police say

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) — A man who police say shot and killed his 19-year-old girlfriend inside her car has also died.

Investigators believe the deadly shooting may have been a murder-suicide pact.

The shooting happened July 26 on Interstate 77 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

Mooresville police said that around 4:30 p.m., a black Kia crashed on I-77 near Exit 35. When officers arrived, they found a man and woman in the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were both taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the 19-year-old woman died from her injuries in the days following the shooting. Officials have not released her name.

Police said last week that the suspected shooter, 23-year-old J’Kobe Tre’shon Ramseur, also died.

Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani said the investigation revealed that Ramseur shot his 19-year-old girlfriend in the head before shooting himself in the head. Ramseur was a passenger in the vehicle and his girlfriend was driving.

Campurciani said that Ramseur and his girlfriend had been in a relationship for a while.

“It’s been a real tumultuous relationship between them,” Campurciani said.

Police said that the two reportedly had domestic-related violations in surrounding counties. Officials did not detail what those violations were.

Campurciani said there were text messages between the two starting at midnight on the day of the shooting and that Ramseur texted his girlfriend at 8 a.m. about a murder-suicide pact.

Officials said that Ramseur continued to text her and pressure her to pick him up, and she eventually did.

Police said the text messages stopped around 2:30 p.m., but it is unclear what they were doing during the final two hours before they were found with gunshot wounds in the vehicle.

Mooresville police said Ramseur is well-known to authorities in surrounding counties.
