Pingree speaks after winning Democratic nomination for Maine governor

PORTLAND, Maine (WABI) - Ten days after the June primary, the Democratic nominee for governor was announced.

Hannah Pingree had more than 111,000 votes, winning ahead of Nirav Shah, who had nearly 87,000 votes.

After her victory early Friday morning, Pingree held a press conference Friday afternoon.

During the conference, Pingree said: “This campaign is about housing that allows young people to actually stay here in the state of Maine. This is about healthcare that we can afford no matter what part you are in, whether you are in a rural hospital in Houlton or Urgent Care in Portland. It is about Maine’s potential. A real future for our kids and the people who are working all across Maine just to get by.“
