BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Well we’ve got an update from a committee meeting in Bangor tonight regarding the relocation plan for Fairmount School students.

The Bangor School Board approved a school within a school model, also known as Option 2, tonight.

This decision will relocate Fairmount students to Bangor High School for the 2026-2027 school year.

The board released some of the details that can be expected with the decision.

“While not mixing the two schools, Fairmount students will have dedicated bathrooms, a play space, music, art, library and PE to ensure program continuity. The Fairmount students will have their own entrance. Safeguards such as secure doors with key-card access will be installed over the summer to create a separate learning environment. Our CENTEGIX safety alert system will be reconfigured to allow separation between the high school and Fairmount. Cameras and access controls for staff will be retrofitted to meet the needs of both schools,” said Bangor School Department Superintendent Marie Robinson.

Superintendent Robinson also emphasized that this is merely a temporary solution, and that all educational programming currently available to the students will continue next year.

The board says there will be open houses available to all Fairmount parents once the building is ready to go for the school year.
