Bangor International Airport set to reopen Thursday following fatal plane crash

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Bangor International Airport Director Jose Saavedra provided an update Wednesday afternoon on Sunday’s fatal plane crash.

The identities of the six victims remain unconfirmed by officials.

Six NTSB investigators are currently on site in Bangor. The FAA and additional NTSB personnel are expected to arrive by week’s end.

Weather conditions delayed both the removal of the aircraft from the runway and the arrival of NTSB crews.

Bangor International Airport has been closed since Sunday night and will remain closed through Thursday at noon. Airport officials confirmed Thursday just before 9 a.m. that operations are on-schedule for the reopening.

First responders determined Sunday that the people aboard were deceased.

The NTSB has requested the scene be preserved during their investigation.

The Bangor Police Department awaits NTSB approval before beginning the process of caring for and identifying the deceased in collaboration with the State Medical Examiner.

Due to the complexity of multi-agency coordination, confirmed information is being released carefully.
