Judge sets $250K bail for man accused of killing 12-week-old daughter

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A judge set bail at $250,000 for an Orrington man accused of killing his infant daughter.

Shawn Samuels, 24, made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon via Zoom.

Samuels is charged with murder in the death of 12-week-old Lyla Samuels. He’s also facing charges of domestic violence elevated aggravated assault and two counts of violation of bail.

According to State Police, authorities were called to a house in Orrington Friday for an unresponsive infant. The infant, Lyla Samuels, was taken to a Bangor hospital where she died Sunday.

An autopsy determined the baby’s death was a homicide.

During Wednesday’s hearing the judge also ordered Samuels to not have contact with any child under the age of 18, and he’s barred from having dangerous weapons as part of his bail conditions.

Samuels is scheduled to appear in court again next month.
