Free BBQ in Old Town kicks off summer full of events

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Wednesday was the first free barbeque of the summer hosted by Downtown Old Town.

The city was grilling up hotdogs and hamburgers for the community all for free.

On top of a good meal, there was yard games and music for all ages to enjoy.

Darlings Ice Cream Truck was also there accepting donations to support the Caring Community Cupboard.

Organizers say the event is all about connecting the community to one another.

“We feel like in the city and downtown Old Town it’s important to give back to the community. A lot of our businesses in the downtown sponsor our events, so we want to give back to the residents of Old Town, invite them down,” said E.J. Roach the economic development director of Old Town. “They get to know each other, they get to meet new people, have some fun, play some lawn games, enjoy the river. It’s a great view, great weather, it’s a great opportunity to have some fun and get to know your friends and give back to the community.“

Downtown Old Town hosts events all summer.
