Maine’s Korean War Veteran Recognition Day

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Saturday, will mark 71 years since the Korean Armistice Agreement, ending the Korean War. Friday afternoon, the State House hosted Korean War Veterans Recognition Day.

Partnering up to make this happen was the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Maine Bureau of Veterans. Korean War veterans looked on as representatives from across the state thanked them for their service.

Veterans and families were given plaques and medals as a token of gratitude for their time given to the country.

”I am grateful that we have a state that recognizes the significant sacrifices of all of our veterans and that they have made to ensure peace and security for our state and nation,” said Brigadier General Diane Dunn.

“It is greatest honor for me and for all the Korean people standing in front of you, but I cannot express enough thanks and respect with any words,” stated Jae-Hui Kim, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Boston, Massachusetts.

The ceremony concluded with the gift of Quilts of Valor to the present Korean War veterans.
