WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) -More than 80 high school students from across the state attended the Future Business Leaders event at Thomas College in Waterville.

Students heard from two panels. One panel was made up of college students, and the other was made up of state business leaders.

Students also took part in a “Budget Boss” activity, in which they created a business on a budget and pitched it to judges.

Event details

“So who better to explain what the real world’s like and any differences between the classroom and the real world than somebody who’s actually been to both? Somebody that’s been to the classroom, somebody who’s now out into the real world, and they can come in and explain what that transition was and what they did to handle it,” said Jamie Campbell, associate professor of accounting at Thomas College.

The event was hosted in collaboration with Wipfli and the New England Society of Certified Public Accountants. Organizers hope to make the gathering an annual event.
