Maine astronaut Jessica Meir set for 7th spacewalk

CARIBOU, Maine (WMTW) - NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, a Caribou native, is scheduled to step outside the International Space Station on Tuesday for her seventh career spacewalk.

Meir and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot are expected to begin the spacewalk at about 8:30 a.m. EDT, according to NASA. Live coverage is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.

The astronauts are expected to spend about 6 1/2 hours outside the station completing maintenance and science-related work.

NASA said their tasks will include replacing a navigational aid used by spacecraft, preparing a cosmic particle detector for future upgrades and installing jumper cables to improve data-relay systems.
