Hot & Humid Sunday; Isolated PM Storms

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Good evening, and Happy Saturday everyone. Skies are partly to mostly sunny and dry across eastern Maine and the Bangor region as of 7:30pm. However, clouds have built in across the rest of the state, with some scattered thunderstorms working across the Western Mountains, Foothills, and Capital region. A few pop up thunderstorms have also developed in the County. Temperatures vary from the upper 60s to upper 70s with dewpoints from the mid 60s to low 70s. Air quality is good/moderate statewide.

Tonight will start with building clouds, some scattered showers, and isolated storms. Rainfall will be minimal for most; however, some locally heavy rainfall could reach up to 1-2 inches within any thunderstorms that develop and slowly move across the state. After midnight, precipitation will be winding down and skies will start to clear from west to east. Low temps will be warm, varying throughout the 60s. Dewpoints will remain elevated in the sticky to humid 60s as well. Due to all the moisture in the atmosphere combining with light & variable winds, fog is expected to develop across much of the state.

Sunday will warm up several degrees after a seasonable Saturday. Highs will vary from the upper 70s to upper 80s with dewpoints remaining humid. After morning fog burns off, skies will be partly to mostly sunny. A cold front will enter Maine by the midday/afternoon hours, with isolated showers & storms developing across mostly northern and eastern locations.

Due to the heat and humidity, combining with the entering cold front, a Marginal (Category 1 out of 5) risk of severe storms has been assessed by the SPC across northern, central, and eastern Maine. The primary concerns look to be strong to potentially damaging wind gusts, as well as heavy rain and localized flooding. Most of the state will see smaller amounts of rain if any rain is received at all. However, some locally heavy rain accumulating between 1-2 inches is possible in spots. Precipitation should wrap up by the later evening hours, with sunnier skies to end the day.

On Monday, conditions will quiet down after an unsettled weekend. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny earlier in the morning, before mostly cloudy skies build in during the late morning, lasting throughout the PM hours. High temps will vary from the mid 70s to mid 80s. Humidity will take a hit following Sunday afternoon’s cold front, with comfy to sticky dewpoints statewide. The day looks like a good one; however, we are keeping our eye on some wildfire smoke which could reduce particle pollution after the cold front enters Sunday night into Monday.

Some scattered shower and storm chances will return to the forecast across northern Maine on Tuesday. This doesn’t look to be a widespread event, so most interior and coastal locations will remain dry. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with highs from the mid 70s to mid 80s, and comfy to sticky dewpoints.

Temperatures and dewpoints will continue to drop during the middle and later portions of the week. We are watching a system which could bring a soaking rain Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning. The timing is subject to some minor changes. By the weekend, high pressure looks to enter with beautiful weather returning to the forecast.

WEDNESDAY: Highs from mid 70s to low 80s. Partly cloudy. Few showers & storms possible to the west. Comfy/slightly sticky dewpoints. WNW/SW gusts reach 15-20 mph.

THURSDAY: Highs from low 70s to low 80s. Partly to mostly cloudy AM. Cloudier PM with showers & storms entering. Comfy/slightly sticky dewpoints. W/SW gusts reach 20 mph.
