Another wet Sunday; becoming warmer and drier for the work week

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Good morning, and happy Sunday everyone.

Showers and storms remain possible with cloudier skies today. Rain showers are expected for the majority of the state during the morning and midday hours. By the afternoon, showers will continue for many with a few non-severe thunderstorms possible. However, precipitation will taper off from the NW to SE throughout the afternoon, so areas across northwestern Maine will dry out with sunshine developing by the midafternoon. Areas along the interstate and coast will continue to see precipitation until the late afternoon to evening hours. Sunshine will develop for most by sunset, with the last of showers exiting far Downeast locations by about 8pm. High temps will vary from the upper 50s to mid 70s. Dewpoints will become sticky in spots. Winds will be on the lighter side in the morning, before becoming breezy in the afternoon with west to NNW gusts reaching 25-35 mph.

Rainfall totals throughout the rest of the weekend will vary between a quarter inch to an inch depending on where more consistent rain and any thunderstorms develop.

After a wet weekend, Monday will be a beautiful and dry day. Skies will be sunny with just a few clouds developing in the afternoon. High temps will warm up, from the upper 60s to low 80s. North gusts will remain just a little breezy, reaching 20-25 mph.

Another beautiful day with mostly sunny skies is expected on Tuesday. However, temperatures will really start to warm. Highs will vary from the low 70s to upper 80s. NW/SW gusts will only reach 20 mph.

Well above average temperatures will carry on Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures will consistently remain throughout the 70s and 80s, with even a few low 90s possible during this stretch. Plenty of sunshine can be expected at times. However, the chance of scattered showers and storms will return to the forecast. Model disagreement remains high, but as of now the time with the greatest chance of showers and storms looks to be Thursday afternoon. Dewpoints will also become sticky towards the end of the week.

WEDNESDAY: Highs from low 70s to low 90s. Partly to mostly sunny AM. Mostly cloudy PM. Few PM showers & storms possible. West to NE gusts reach 15-20 mph.

THURSDAY: Highs from upper 60s to upper 80s. Partly cloudy AM. Mostly cloudy PM with showers & storms possible. Slightly sticky dewpoints. South gusts reach 15-20 mph.

FRIDAY: Highs from upper 60s to low 90s. Partly to mostly cloudy. Few PM showers possible. Sticky dewpoints. SW gusts reach 15-20 mph.
