Summer temperatures on the way Wednesday through Friday

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Good afternoon, and Happy Tuesday everyone. Skies are on the cloudier side across much of Maine this midday/afternoon with a few showers in spots along the Downeast Coast, as well as northern portions of Somerset County. Temperatures vary throughout the 60s for most, with a few upper 50s in the Moosehead region. Visibility is good. Wind gusts are peaking up to 20-25 mph.

Skies will remain on the cloudier side throughout most of the afternoon. A few showers and even an isolated storm may pop up along the Downeast coast during the early to midafternoon. By the evening hours, skies will start to clear with sunshine for many to end the day. High temperatures will vary from the mid 60s to low 70s with NNW/SW gusts reaching 20-25 mph.

Conditions will be very quiet tonight, with clearer skies and low temperatures throughout the 40s. Winds will be light and variable.

Warm and sunnier weather will develop across Maine for the mid to late week as the high-pressure dome to our west will force the weaker low pressure in the Canadian Maritimes back out to sea. Partly to mostly sunny skies in the morning on Wednesday will become completely sunny in the afternoon. Highs will vary from the low 60s to low 80s. NW/SW gusts will reach 15-25 mph.

Thursday will be our warmest day of the week, with highs throughout the 70s and 80s. Sunny skies in the morning will give way to just a few clouds developing in the afternoon. WSW gusts will reach 20-25 mph.

Friday will remain on the warmer side, with highs from the upper 60s to mid 80s. However, clouds will build throughout the day, with partly to mostly cloudy skies in the morning clouding out by the afternoon with some late day showers entering Northern Maine.

Showers in Northern Maine Friday evening will then expand across the state on Saturday, which looks to be the wettest day of the week. Skies will be overcast with showers in the morning becoming a steadier rain in the afternoon. Even a few thunderstorms are possible. Highs will vary from the mid 60s to the upper 70s.

A few showers may linger into Sunday across inland and coastal locations. However, model uncertainty remains high as some models have high pressure to the north of us sliding into Maine and forcing showers out, while other models have showers lingering with high pressure remaining farther to the North. We will keep our eyes on this set up. Temperatures look to vary from the low 60s to the low 70s. Northern Maine is trending on the drier side.

THURSDAY: Highs from low 70s to upper 80s. Sunny AM. Mostly sunny PM. WSW gusts reach 20-25 mph.

FRIDAY: Highs from upper 60s to mid 80s. Partly to mostly cloudy AM. Cloudy PM. Late day showers entering Northern Maine. WNW/SW gusts reach 15-20 mph.

SATURDAY: Highs from mid 60s to upper 70s. Overcast skies. AM showers becoming steadier during PM. Few thunderstorms possible. NNW gusts reach 15-20 mph.

SUNDAY: Highs from low 60s to low 70s. Partly to mostly cloudy. Showers possible inland & coast. More sunshine North. NE gusts reach 15-20 mph.
