SEARSMONT, Maine (WABI) - Robbins Lumber, which saw a tragic fire and explosion at its Searsmont facility last month, is now fully operational again.

In an update posted to their website, the company says the mill began processing orders again last Tuesday and returned to full operations Thursday evening, thanks to the efforts of employees and partners.

The company’s coating facility—about five miles from the mill—has continued normal operations.

Robbins Lumber says it has built a temporary on-site warehouse to help keep up with demand.

They are also using a location in Sanford for additional warehouse space and have increased production at their mill in East Baldwin.

The fire and explosion on May 15 killed Morrill firefighter Andrew Cross and injured 12 others, including first responders and mill workers— including members of the Robbins family.

In the update, Catherine Robbins-Halsted thanked the community for the kindness they’ve been showed since the incident, saying in part: “We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our customers, industry partners, friends, neighbors, and the entire lumber community for the incredible support, encouragement, and prayers we have received over the past several days. The kindness shown to our company and employees during this difficult time has been overwhelming and deeply appreciated.”

She added owners Jim and Alden Robbins as well as family member and EMS worker Lily Robbins continue to receive excellent care at Massachusetts General Hospital, and they remain hopeful and encouraged by their progress. Robbins-Halsted said they continue to hold those affected by the tragedy in their hearts.

“The strength, resilience, and compassion shown by our employees, families, customers, and community have been extraordinary. Thank you for standing with Robbins Lumber.”
