Shelter-in-place lifted at Bates College

LEWISTON, Maine (WABI) - A shelter in place has been lifted for Bates College and hospitals in Lewiston after *reports* of an armed man in that area.

Lewiston Police say this afternoon around 3pm, officers responded to an incident at St. Mary’s Hospital for an ongoing investigation that started in Auburn.

Were told the person they were looking for had run from family members and was believed to have a firearm.

Lewiston Police say they later determined that no gun was seen by family members or any other witnesses.

They also say the person has made no threats to harm members of the public.

Lewiston Police did not say if they found the person but said they will remain in the area as the investigation remains active.
