Gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Bush reveals tax plan, proposes $1 billion income tax cut
AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Bush spoke on Wednesday in Augusta about his proposed tax plan.
Bush says it’s time to do away with property and income taxes under the Mills administration, and that it will take someone outside politics to deliver a solution.
He called Maine a ‘no-fly zone’ for economic growth, pointing to what he says is the highest income tax rate in New England.
Bush argues businesses are leaving the state and taking their property tax revenue with them shifting the burden onto homeowners.
He proposes cutting personal income tax on day one by $1 billion, which he estimates would save about $2,000 per family.
“I believe that will be a signal to the business community, small businesses in Maine that are growing and deciding whether to stay and businesses that have written us off when deciding where to grow,” said Bush. “We will say to them ‘Nope, we’re serious about business now. We’re done shooting ourselves in the foot economically. We’re done being a 0% GDP growth state.’ 0% in America, oh my god.“
Bush is one of seven Republican candidates for Governor. The primary is on June 9th.
