Lawrence girls basketball team prepares for Class B state championship against Oceanside

FAIRFIELD, Maine (WABI) - The Lawrence Bulldogs won Class B North as the No. 3 seed after knocking out No. 6 MDI, No. 7 Ellsworth, and No. 1 Gardiner in the regional tournament.

Miss Basketball finalist Maddie Provost and Ashley Shores have led the Bulldogs on their run.

Now, they’re up against the South champion and No. 2 seed Oceanside Mariners in the state title game.

“Obviously celebrating the regional championship was good and all, but we have one more step to do,” said Provost, senior guard.

“Defense is really our big thing because we know they have bigs and they can shoot. We’re really just trying to push more and come together as a team,” said Shores, senior forward.

“They’re a great team. They have (Olivia) Breen inside, and they have great shooters outside. If we lock down on defense, we’ll win,” said Payton Cole, senior forward.

“Last time we won (the state championship), I was actually in the student section, so it’s really been cool to be a part of it this time,” said Kiera Day, senior guard.

The Bulldogs and Mariners face off on Friday at 6:05 p.m. at Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center for the Gold Ball.
