Downtown Bangor Partnership is expanding to a historic Bangor building

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Downtown Bangor Partnership is moving to a new space that will bring new opportunities.

While 33 State Street was well known years ago as the Bangor Hydro Electric Company headquarters, it will now be home to the Partnership.

The move comes as the Partnership looks to expand and create a welcome center.

The building will also house WKIT and Mix Maine Media, and they’ll broadcast from street view in the building.

Board members say having the radio stations in house will make it easier for them to get the word out quicker about future events happening in Bangor.

“Folks listen to the radio, they feel like they know the DJs,” Alton Buzzell, Downtown Bangor Partnership Board Vice President said. “So by having their studios here in downtown Bangor, having their talent here in downtown Bangor, people can just build that relationship with them, and with that, coming into the space, they’ll build that relationship with us in downtown Bangor.”

The Partnership is also hoping to make Bangor a “Main Street Maine” accredited city, which recognizes cities that are committed to revitalization and economic development.

The accreditation allows for extra trainings for board members as well a place to share ideas with other cities.

“We love the idea of being able to learn how other cities in the state have sort of managed the challenges of a modern urban environment and how they have been managing new and different kinds of tourism,” Monique Bouchard, Marketing and events Director for Bangor Downtown Partnership said. “We also feel like we actually have some things to share on that side ourselves.“

The Partnership is still working on moving into the new space but hopes to host an open house for the community soon.
