The No.1 Mt. Abram Roadrunners one step closer to a regional title

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The No.1 Mt. Abram Roadrunners brought down the No. 4 Monmouth Academy Mustangs 40-17 to reach the Class D South title game.

The Roadrunners were led by Sophomore Guard Stella Peterson who had 20 points.

“I think the whole team, we played really unselfish basketball, we stuck together the whole game and it really brought us to the win,” said Peterson.

Allowing just seven points in the second half, the defensive side of the ball was just as much as a priority.

“We are mainly a really defensive team and that’s what keeps us in the game,” answered Senior Abby McCarty.

The Roadrunners will now face the Buckfield Bucks in Saturday’s regional title game.

“We have never gotten here out of all four years of my high school career,” added McCarty. “We’ve never step foot in the Civic Center and it feels extremely incredible to have two games and now three games.”
