3 die after mother tried rescuing her 2 disabled children in house fire

CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) – A mother and two of her adult children with disabilities were killed in a house fire nearly two weeks ago in Ohio.

Dylan Schwartz Archambault, the woman’s middle son, identified the victims as Mary Ann Schwartz, Sol Archambault and Aislynne Coffaro.

“She’s always been someone to care for others and go above and beyond to help everyone out as much as she can,” Schwartz Archambault said of his mother.

Schwartz Archambault said his mother was cooking dinner when the fire started.

“We still don’t know the cause. The fire very quickly, very quickly raged,” he said.

His mother ran outside trying to get help to rescue her children from inside the burning home, but she ran back into the house to save them herself, her son said.

“She unfortunately perished from within the flames after she tried to save her children,” Schwartz Archambault said.

Schwartz Archambault said he heard stories that neighbors were trying to help rescue his family and was appreciative of their efforts.

“They were trying to throw water on it. They were trying everything they could to try to save my family there,” he said.

More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene, but Schwartz Archambault said the fire was too much for them to handle. Now, he wants this story to serve as a reminder about fire safety.

“Make sure you have some sort of fire escape plan and practice fire safety,” he said.
