Former NFL wide receiver, college All-American Jordan Shipley severely burned at his ranch

BURNET, Texas (WXIX/Gray News) - A former Texas star and NFL player is in the hospital after being severely burned.

Jordan Shipley, 40, was in an accident Tuesday near his hometown of Burnet, according to a family statement shared by University of Texas Senior Associate Athletics Director John Bianco.

Shipley was working on a machine on his ranch when it reportedly caught fire.

The former wide receiver sustained severe burns, but managed to get out and get to a co-worker, the family said.

Shipley was driven to a nearby hospital before a medical helicopter flew him to Austin, where he was admitted in critical condition, his family said.

Shipley spent three seasons in the NFL after being selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shipley earned All-America honors in college with the Texas Longhorns in 2009. He had 248 career catches for 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns.

In 2012, his final NFL season, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
