BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Hannaford Registered Dietitian Mary LaVanway has a splendid salad dressing to make at home!

Do-It-Yourself Vinaigrette’s

Vinaigrette Base: makes 3/4 cup

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • McCormick Herbs and Spices (see options below)
  • 1/4 tsp McCormick Sea Salt Grinder
  • 1/2 cup oil

Directions:

  1. Mix vinegar, sugar, herbs and spices and sea salt in medium bowl with wire whisk until well blended.
  2. Gradually add oil, whisking until well blended.
  3. Pour into a mason jar or a salad dressing dispenser.
  4. Store in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
  5. Shake it up before serving.

Pomegranate Vinaigrette:

Make the Vinaigrette Base recipe (above) substituting pomegranate juice for the vinegar.

For the Herbs and Spices, add 1 tsp of Ground Cinnamon and 1 tsp of Ground Ginger.

Balsamic Honey:

Make the Vinaigrette Base recipe (above) substitute the honey for sugar.

For the Herbs and Spices, add 1 tsp Ground Cumin and a Pinch of Coarse Ground Black Pepper.
