Blue Hill woman reaches thousands one love card at a time

BLUE HILL, Maine (WABI) - All you need is love.

That commonly heard phrase is shared in many different ways and one Blue Hill woman doesn’t want you to forget that.

Right off of South Street in Blue Hill, you’ll see a little cottage with a big heart.

Joanne Steenberg will welcome you with open arms and most likely a sweet note that started when she looked to fill an advent calendar day for her kids in 2013.

“I handmade a little love card thinking just keep it in your pocket and then you know if you’re having a bad day, put your hand in there and say, ‘oh, at least my mom loves me,” said Steenberg.

The idea came and went, it was just another sweet reminder for Steenberg’s kids but in 2016 she found those handmade notes again serving as a little reminder.

Steenberg says after finding them, she believed she was supposed to make more but didn’t think anything of it.

The notes she had written for her kids, and students when she taught as a math teacher served as more than a reminder when she saw them passed on to other students, teachers and families in the community.

The Love Card has ever since spread kindness, gentleness and the sweet reminder that you are loved.

“We forget that love is more powerful than anything and this is just a reminder,” said Steenberg.

“I mean there’s millions of ways people are spreading love and sharing love with people. This is just one way.”

That one way has spread all over the world reaching thousands for people to receive and share a kind message.

On top of her other talents Steenberg is a writer for a local newspaper column where she shares motivational messages on Mondays aligning with the Love Card.
