Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. donate 1,393 pounds of food to Brewer Food Pantry

BREWER, Maine (WABI) - For the 13th year, Nickerson and O’Day Inc, a construction firm based in Brewer, made a donation right before Thanksgiving to the Brewer Food Pantry.

On Wednesday morning the company brought three trucks worth of food, culminating in an almost 14,000 pound donation.

Nickerson and O’Day employees joined the food bank’s volunteers in unloading the items.

The tradition began when the company completed renovation work on the pantry’s building and decided to celebrate with a food drive.

Since then, it has become a yearly commitment.

“This is amazing. This is like the second highest donation that we’ve received, and it’s unbelievable the generosity of people, you know. And I don’t believe it’s just because of the holiday season. I just think people in general are just good people and like to help other people out that don’t have as much as some other people have,” said Joy Leighton, a volunteer at the Brewer Food Pantry.

Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. put on a handful of fundraisers throughout the year to make this donation possible.
