PITTSFIELD, Maine (WABI) - A Maine credit union is finding a unique way to bring people together to help in their fight against hunger, and they want you to take part.

Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union is hosting a paintball tournament on Saturday, May 31, at Flying Dutchman Paintball in Guilford.

They’re rallying teams, sponsors, and spectators for a day that will help them in their hunger relief efforts.

All proceeds will benefit the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

Sebasticook Valley FCU, which has locations in Newport and Pittsfield, is one of the top credit unions in the state for fundraising.

Last year, with the help of employees and their members, they were able to bring in more than $46,000.

“We contribute a significant amount to six food pantries in the area. We support all the local schools in their food needs, and it’s something we’re very proud of and happy to do,” said Kelley Carter, executive vice president at Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union.

“We live in rural Maine. Especially this credit union, we don’t serve an overally wealthy community, and there’s a lot of people that rely on those food pantries or the school pantries for food, so we want to make sure those are available and stay available,” said Erica Allen, frontline manager at the Sebasticook Valley Credit Union Pittsfield location.

Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised nearly $15 million.

To participate in the paintball tournament, you must be at least 18 years old.

Teams of four can register for $400, and businesses or individuals may choose from three sponsorship levels: Target Sponsor ($100), Basecamp Sponsor ($300), or Corporate Sponsor ($500). Included with the registration are players’ field fee, all rental equipment, protective neck covering, 100 paintballs (per player), and dinner.

To secure a spot, participants must complete the registration form and return it by May 30 to eallen@svfcume.com or by mail to Sebasticook Valley FCU, Attn: Erica Allen, P.O. Box 10, Pittsfield, ME 04967. Checks will be collected at check-in on the morning of the event.

Players should arrive by 11 a.m. Saturday for safety briefings and equipment assignments.
