Pembroke man sentenced to 10 years for murder of Whitneyville man
Two other men from New York were also arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Wayne Foss
MACHIAS, Maine (WABI) - A Pembroke man learned his sentence after pleading guilty Thursday to murder.
Justin Matthews, 35, was originally charged with two counts of murder, arson, and robbery in 2023.
These charges are in connection to the 2017 killing of Wayne Foss, 48, who was found dead inside his burned down mobile home in Whitneyville.
After accepting a plea deal last January, all charges against Matthews except felony murder were dropped.
Before receiving his sentence of 10 years behind bars, Foss’s wife and sister shared how the loss of their loved one impacted them.
“I can no longer tell my children, grandchildren there’s no such thing as monsters. The violence in which you (unintelligible) from our lives proves monsters live in our world. And you are a monster in our reality,” said Kim Foss, wife of Wayne Foss.
“You have taken something from us that we can never get back. And you will, you will have to answer to a higher power someday, not just this courtroom,” said Lynn Foss, sister of Wayne Foss.
Two other men from New York were also arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Foss.
Last month, 29-year-old Basilio Liranzo, 29, was sentenced to 16 years behind bars.
Leanza Boney, 26, was sentenced to five years in prison.
