New heating fuel assistance program available for veterans in Aroostook County
BANGOR, Maine (WABI)—Two local nonprofits and an energy company are helping veterans in Aroostook County with heating assistance.
The Maine Veterans Project and the Galen Cole Family Foundation are partnering with Daigle Oil Company to create the Galen Cole Family Foundation Heating Fuel Assistance Program.
This will help veterans in northern Maine with both No. 2 heating fuel and kerosene.
The fuel will be delivered to veterans, free of charge.
This program is effective now and will carry over into the fall and winter.
MVP and the GCFF say they know the need is great in Aroostook County, and they’re happy to be able to offer this in a collaborative way.
“We’re committed to rural Maine. Galen Cole, the founder of the company, grew up in rural Maine,” said Scott Oxley of the Galen Cole Family Foundation. “He’s got a soft spot for what he’d call “the little guy,” those that don’t have the same resources that others do here throughout the state and throughout the country. So, getting to those folks that need us most is really important to us.”
“Some of the best things MVP {Maine Veterans Project} has ever had to offer, collaborative programs, and this is nothing shy of that. Without the partners we’re with, we could never expand into Aroostook County or even be part of this amazing program, so thank you to them,” said Shawn Goodwin, president of the Maine Veterans Project.
If you are a veteran in Aroostook County in need of help, you can contact the Maine Veterans Project at 262-6061 or 262-6065, and they will take care of the vetting process.
