AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The Belfast man accused in murdering his wife and injuring his mother in Readfield was scheduled to be in court Friday, but it didn’t happen.

34-year-old Samuel Whittemore is charged with killing 32-year-old Margaux Whittemore on Wednesday at his parents' home.

Her body was found outside and his injured mother was located inside the home.

Whittemore’s hearing was delayed due to what his lawyers called a ‘competency issue.’ The judge in the case called for a competency evaluation of Whittemore before his first hearing.

The judge also added a status conference will be scheduled in the near future once there’s a better idea of Whittemore’s competency.

Whittemore is currently being held without bail.
