Corinna Fire Department receives new UTV from Firehouse Subs foundation

CORINNA, Maine (WABI) - The Corinna Fire Department recently received a big donation.

A grant through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation bought a new UTV.

The foundation says it should help the department reduce response times on trails and areas where an ambulance can’t reach.

Corinna’s fire chief says it will be helpful in responding to grass and forest fires as well as any accidents on the trails throughout the area.

While it has treads on it right now, it also came with a set of wheels for the warmer months.

“Without the grant, we wouldn’t have been able to purchase this unit because $40,000 is what they gave us for this unit. We wouldn’t have carried the funds to do that, so we’re pretty excited. It’s been called upon a couple times so far. We’ve used it in one training exercise,” said Corinna’s Fire Chief, Allen Emerson.

The department is currently in the process of outfitting the back of the UTV to transport patients.
