Cadet dies after collapsing during training drill at military college, police say

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News) - Authorities in Vermont say a cadet at Norwich University died after collapsing during a training drill.

According to the Northfield Police Department, Daniel Bermudez was pronounced dead Wednesday at the Central Vermont Medical Center.

Students were conducting outside training drills at the military college when Bermudez collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

His body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Norwich University said Bermudez was a member of the class of 2028.

“The loss has deeply affected our entire campus community; we are united in our grief. Our thoughts and condolences are with Daniel’s family, friends, and those close to him,” Norwich University President Lt. Gen. John Broadmeadow said.

The school said resources will be available to help support students, faculty and staff deal with the death.
