AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) - State police say nobody was hurt after a white powder was discovered in a piece of mail at a state building in Augusta on Tuesday.

Officers from Capitol, State and Augusta Police departments were reportedly called to the Cross Building at around 4:20 p.m. to clear the fourth floor.

That’s where investigators say the white powder was found in a piece of mail during regular processing.

The powder was tested by investigators on-site, but all tests were negative, according to a state police spokesperson.

It is unclear if the powder was identified, though the investigation continues.

The Cross Building and State House both remained open during the incident.

Crews from Maine State Police, National Guard Civil Support Team and Maine Department of Environmental Protection also responded.
