Acadia National Park cleans up after recent storm
ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, Maine (WABI) - Acadia National Park has seen a rain and wind storm affect its coast and with yet another storm forecasted for Saturday, mother nature may bring even more destruction.
“The biggest impact that we’ve seen so far is damage to the ocean path which is along the section of the Park Loop Road between Sand Beach and Thunder Hole in Otter Cliff. Some significant damage and complete removal of the trail along that section of the park Loop Road has occurred.” stated John Kelly, Management Assistant, Acadia National Park.
“I’ve never seen anything like this in my lifetime and I was a lifeguard at Sand Beach from 2007 to 2010. And we never saw a storm that big Hurricane Earl came in I think in 2009 but it never had this much damage.” said Alissa Bischoff-York, who was visiting Sand Beach.
Maintenance crews have been hard at work on roads and trails, cleaning anything from light debris to fallen trees to even boulders.
“The park is doing some immediate repairs to just secure the damaged areas as they are now working to prevent further damage for the predicted storm on Saturday. We’re also taking steps to ensure safety of visitors to make sure that areas that are still accessible are marked with signs that let people know that there has been damage.” Kelly explained.
