Results in ranked choice races expected on Thursday

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Wednesday was day four of the ranked choice voting tabulation process and election officials announcing there will be a day five.

The Secretary of State’s office says that results in the three statewide races, Democratic and Republican nominations for governor and the Democratic nominee for CD2, should be revealed on Thursday.

Following the law enforcement collection and uploading, election officials have been working on reconciliation. A process to match the numbers from election night to what has been calculated in Augusta.

Election officials hoping to have that done Wednesday night.

That just leaving proofing, which will take several hours, for Thursday.

“After that, there is one more checking stage,” answered Deputy Chief Secretary of State Kate McBrien. “We actually go through all those spreadsheets that we’ve created in our database and the election staff have to go through and make sure that every number of ballots reported for each town is actually in the database and can be accounted for.“

McBrien said that two issues came up throughout the day in the towns of Searsmont and South Berwick. Law enforcement went to retrieve the necessary ballots to bring them back to Augusta.
