Bangor property values will be based on 2025 numbers as revaluation delayed until 2027

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - This month it was revealed that a revaluation of Bangor property that began two years ago is unlikely to take effect this year.

Tuesday night the firm behind the revaluation held a public forum with Bangor residents to explain the details and answer questions.

Massachusetts-based KRT Appraisal, which is contracted with Bangor to appraise its properties, has been working on the revaluation since 2024.

The firm missed the cutoff deadline, as it needs an extra two weeks to complete the full process.

The new property values will not be used in 2026 and will instead be deferred until 2027.

Some Bangor residents expressed their concerns about increases in taxes.

“People just can’t afford their homes. So, at what point do we look at all these increases in taxes and say, ‘You know what? Enough is enough, and we’ve got to stop,’ because whether people are accurately tracking what they’re spending or not, the burden is always falling on us. I’m going tonight to write a check for property taxes,” said one resident.

The city plans to estimate values for this year’s tax cycle by adjusting the values from 2025.
