Screaming goat causes stir in Etna, police run-in: ‘He’s just got a lot to say!’

ETNA, Maine (WABI) - A screaming goat has become the talk of the town in Etna.

Last Saturday, a resident reported hearing a woman screaming for help.

But when local police tracked the mysterious noise by following train tracks, what they found wasn’t a woman screaming or anyone in danger at all.

The strange sounds led them to Oak Shade Farm.

“I want to say it was after 8:30 [at night],” recounts farmer Devon Hawes. “We’re just sitting there watching Netflix, and somebody, all of a sudden, there was a very loud bang on the door.”

After speaking with the homeowners, Devon and Farmer Hawes, the sheriff’s department came face-to-face with the culprit: Simon, the Hawes’ 1-year-old Nigerian Dwarf goat.

In his defense, the couple says Simon has always been chatty!

“It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood, it’s quiet except for us!” Hawes describes. “I don’t know how to make a goat be quiet. He gets everything he needs. Food, love, all of the things. He’s just got a lot to say!”

The Hawes decided to post about the funny run-in on Facebook, allowing neighbors to join in on the goat glee and to give closure to the concerned citizen who made the call.

Hawes comments on the reception: “There was a lot of laughing, and you know, a few people are like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m glad it ended the way it did. It wasn’t anything serious.’”

In the end, the Hawes nor Simon faced any repercussions for the commotion.
