WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - The annual Battle of the Badges basketball game between the Waterville Police and Fire Departments is set for tip-off Sunday at noon.

The game will be played at the Alfond Youth Community Center raising money for their Unified Champion Club and the Pay-What-You-Can Program.

Both departments are excited for the opportunity to put on the basketball shoes and face-off in a more relaxed setting than the community typically sees them.

We were able to hold press conferences in both departments to ask the hard-hitting questions before the big game.

“We’re pretty confident. I think we’re gonna bring the trophy home. We’ll try not to run up the score too, too bad, because we do feel bad for them a little bit, you know rain does their job for them. So, we don’t want to twist the knife too bad,” claimed Major and Point Guard Jason Longley of the Waterville Police Department.

“I’m a little worried about what the Major said about us. I’m just hoping that he can back it up, because we’re coming, we’re coming. We’ve been scouting them, we know who their best players are, not that we are going to hurt them, but we’ll be coming after them,” responded Head Coach and Chief Jason Frost of the Waterville Fire Department.

“I think we have one major secret weapon, and that’s gonna be skill,” concluded E.M.S. Deputy Chief Everett Flannery.

Flannery would be shoe-in for M.V.P. if this game was being played on ice.

Waterville PD was also quoted as calling themselves, “finely tuned athletes on the verge of greatness,” while the Fire Department is planning on using their quote, “big rugged folks underneath the basket.”

Both sides predicted victory by over 20 points.

Admission is free for Sunday’s match-up, but they are asking for a donation toward the causes.
