ORONO, MAINE (WABI) - UMaine women’s basketball has quite the tradition and as a result a solid fan base.
Those fans will have a chance to honor some of the players that helped put UMaine basketball on the national stage later this month.
The school plans to honor two teams. This 1999 team that made the NCAA tournament twenty years ago was the first to win a tournament game.
Players on the team went to the tournament every year they were Black Bears. This group was coached by Joanne Palombo McCallie.
The other team to be honored is the group from 15 years ago. The 2004 team also went to the NCAA tournament with a 25-6 record.
This group was coached by Sharon Versyp and was the last team to go to march madness until last year’s team made the dance.
Both teams will be honored at the home game Sunday, January 27th.
