Bates pleads not guilty to NYC charges

BANGOR, MAINE (WABI) - Detroit Lions linebacker and former UMaine player Trevor Bates has been arraigned from a hospital psychiatric ward.

He's charged with punching a New York City police officer after failing to pay a taxi fare.

The 25-year-old pleaded not guilty today to charges including assault, resisting arrest and theft of services.

Bates was arrested 10 days ago after allegedly refusing to pay a $32 cab fare.

His next hearing is scheduled for March 8th.
