PORTLAND, MAINE (WABI)- Former Cony and UMaine basketball star Amy Vachon has earned the permanent job as head coach of the UMaine women’s basketball team.
The school has awarded her a four year contract, removing the interim tag from her title.
Vachon came back to her Alma Mater as an assistant coach seven years ago, and became the interim head coach last year, when Richard Barron was placed on medical leave.
"It kept creeping in to my life. I helped out a couple places and it just turned into a career," says UMaine head women's basketball coach Amy Vachon, "When I talk to kids, I tell them a lot you gotta find what you are passionate about. Listen you know. For me, I fought it for a long time. It just didn't make sense to fight it anymore."
