Warden Service Plane Goes Through Ice On Eagle Lake

EAGLE LAKE, Maine (WABI) A warning about thin ice in some areas after a Warden Service plane went through the ice when it landed on Eagle Lake.

Strong winds yesterday forced the pilot to alter his normal landing pattern.

Pilot Jeff Spencer taxied across the ice toward the Warden Service plane base and that's when it broke through the ice.

Spencer was able to get out safely and was not hurt, the plane was partially submerged and the full extent of damage is unknown.

Two days earlier, several test holes were drilled in various locations and the ice was determined safe for aircraft operations.
