BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Two large nonprofits in Eastern Maine have merged to better serve some of the most vulnerable.

Starting January 1st, Penquis and the Charlotte White Center will be working together as one organization.

The Charlotte White Center provides services to people with disabilities and other challenges.

The two organizations have shared a CEO for the past year

Together, they serve approximately 18,000 individuals annually and employ close to 700 people in Knox, Penobscot, and Piscataquis counties.

"Together we think that we can have reduced benefits costs which will help the employees and also it will have a more comprehensive sweet of services for our community," said CEO Kara Hay.

According to CEO Kara Hay, there will be no negative impact to services or employees as a result of the merger.
