Thomas Hill Standpipe opened for seasonal tour

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Thomas Hill Standpipe in Bangor was open Friday for the winter viewing.

And, as far as this time of year goes, it was a pretty nice day to make the trek to the top.

It happens only four times a year, once every season.

It lets folks climb the stairs and grab a peek at one of the best views in the area.

Making the trip has become a tradition for many.

But, we caught up with one Bangor native, born and raised, who hiked to the top for the very first time.

"I think it's pretty cool. Nice scenery and everything. People should come up here and see it more often. Bangor's grown a lot since I grew up here. Being up here you can actually see how much it has grown and everything because a lot of things are here that weren't here before," said David McCarty of Bangor.

The next tour is in the spring.
