Thomas College receives grant to make their campus more environmentally sustainable

WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) Thomas College in Waterville has been awarded a grant to make their campus more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

It comes from the Ecomaine School Recycling Grant Program.

The money will be used to buy recycling bins which will be placed all across campus.

The proposal was written by two students who are the co-presidents of Thomas College's environmental sustainability club, Club Green, and their faculty advisor.

"For me it's really exciting to see this," said Kaylee Marraffa, co-president of Club Green. "I think this is a new momentum for students to push those recycling efforts. We've had a couple waste baskets here and there but nothing that really said, hey, recycle your bottles, recycle your paper. So I think it's just a new wave, and students. It will educate them."

They expect to make the first recycling bin purchases in February.
