Empowering children with tangible knowledge is at the heart of the Dictionary Project.
Third graders in the Guilford area have been on the receiving end of it for about 13 years now.
"Awesome. In a word," says Walter Boomsma, Valley Grange Program Director.
One of the definitions for the word awesome is inspiring great admiration. Fitting for this annual event in Guilford.
For 13 years, the Valley Grange has been arming third graders in the district with an essential educational tool: the dictionary.
The Dictionary Project has given nearly 31 million dictionaries to students around the world, including those handed out here every year.
To date, the grange has given out about 2,800 dictionaries.
"It feels like you're making a difference."
