A lot of Mainers will remember a certain locally-aired 1980's Christmas commercial starring some very cute kitties.

Folks at The Nite Show with Danny Cashman sure do, and now they're putting a puuurrr-fect twist of their own on the iconic holiday spot.

"Growing up here, Christmas time here was a time where you looked forward to lots of things and chief among those was this iconic kitty commercial."

The commercial originally aired in 1980 for Bangor Savings Bank and quickly became a hit.

"It was such a simple concept but it really spelled out for people in the area, it's Christmas time."

Now, over three decades later, thanks to The Nite Show, the commercial has been digitally re-mastered and re-cast for your viewing pleasure.

"What was your initial thought when he said, 'hey I want you to roll around on the floor underneath a Christmas tree and do weird stuff with me?'"

"You want me to do what?"

"It just seemed like the thing to do because the commercial was so iconic. So, I thought why not bring it back on television, and my cats are elderly and not well behaved, so Brian and I were the next best thing."

When getting into character...Cashman went method.

"I ate four cans of fancy feast. I drank a lot of milk, and I spent hours licking myself."

*Being* the kitten...much harder.

"I was surprised how little room there is underneath a Christmas tree. Plenty of room for a newborn kitten but for two guys who are perhaps medium to large build...not a lot of room to roll around under the Christmas tree."

The end result...a gift finer than a laser pointer and a tin foil ball.

"People that came up after said not only was that funny, but thank you for doing that, I love that we get to see it on television again. That was sort of the seed that was planted in my brain. Why are we going to run this only once? Why don't we see if WABI will run it as a commercial for the show and sure enough, there it is."
