Ten Bucks Theatre Company Finds Home in the Bangor Mall

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Bangor Mall has a new tenant.

"We've been searching for a new home for quite some time." says Julie Arnold Lisnet, Treasurer for Ten Bucks Theatre Company.

Ten Bucks Theater formed in 2000 and spent many years performing at the old Brewer Middle School and Comins Hall in Eddington.

"But we knew we needed to get back to Bangor, our audience base is in Bangor."

Three years after starting their search, they now have a permanent place in the former PacSun location in the Bangor Mall.

"I love this new space." Says Ben Layman, board member and show director. "We've all been hoping for something like this for a long time that we could make our own and a versatile space where we could do different kinds of shows."

"Standard square theatre, we can do that, we can pull it out into the middle, and having the audience all around to do theatre in the round."

Their first performance in the space will be The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged, directed by Ben Layman.

"It's definitely a parody version. There's some real Shakespeare involved. You get some passages of real Shakespeare, but mostly it's three guys in tights being really crazy and running around the stage."

There's still a lot of work to be done before the show, which runs the last weekend of this month.

"If you want to have fun on a dreary January night, you want something fun to do, and you want to laugh for an hour and a half, come!"
